Jaiswal And Gill Breaks Record, Putting India Ahead In The Match! Which Records The Duo Broke?

India had a dominating first day in the 1st Test match against England at Leeds, Headingley Stadium. England won the toss and decided to bowl first, but the Indian batters made them regret that decision. Yashasvi Jaiswal played beautifully and scored 101 runs, making him the first Indian player to hit centuries in his debut Tests in both England and Australia . KL Rahul supported well with the contribution of 42 runs before getting out.

Then came captain Shubman Gill, who played a classy and confident innings. He remained unbeaten on 127, becoming only the 5th Indian to score on a captaincy debut and the third youngest Indian captain to achieve this feat.

Jaiswal and Gill also became only the 3rd Indian pair to score centuries on Day 1 of a Test match outside India, after Sehwag-Tendulkar (2001) and Dhawan-Pujara (2017). Their 2nd-wicket partnership was one of India’s highest ever overseas. Rishabh Pant added an aggressive 65 not out, giving India strong momentum.

By the end of the day, India were 359/3. England’s bowlers struggled all day and failed to make an impact. It was a perfect start for India, with strong batting, broken records, and full domination on Day 1.
